At the start of 2024, Envu announced that the ever-popular Ficam D would be pulled from shelves in the UK later in the year. This news rocked pest control technicians, as the withdrawal of Ficam D presented a significant change for those who have relied on it as a trusty, highly effective insecticide against ants, wasps and hornets for decades.

Why was Ficam D removed from the market?

The decision to remove Ficam D from the market follows new regulatory changes that impact the registration and distribution of products containing Bendiocarb, the active ingredient in Ficam D.

Regulatory assessments on the environmental and public safety of Bendiocarb intensified in recent years. In 2020, changes were made to Ficam D’s product labels to try and ensure the product remained available to the professional pest management sector whilst regulatory teams looked for a long-term solution.

Unfortunately, during this period it was realised that Bendiocarb would struggle to meet strict biocide requirements that would allow for its registration renewal, despite Envu’s investments. This registration renewal would have been needed for Ficam D to stay on the market.

Paul Fischer, Head of Sales for Envu UK & Ireland was quoted as saying

“The withdrawal of a product is something we work very hard to avoid. We continue to defend our product registrations and remain committed to constant innovation and new product development to ensure our customers have the best possible solutions to help them protect public health.”

Can still I buy Ficam D?

Simply put, no. The last date to buy Ficam D from suppliers was 29th July 2024.

I bought a tub of Ficam D before July 29th, can I still use it?

The absolute last date you can use Ficam D is 25 January 2025.
